Why Yoga
I began practicing yoga in 1998, to balance the hectic pace of my professional life. Since then, I have found that yoga not only relieves stress but also brings a more balanced perspective to all aspects of my life.
In 2005, I began the Asheville Yoga Center's 230-hour teacher training program, hoping to deepen my own practice. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that not only did I improve my personal practice, but that I find great joy in teaching yoga. I have been sharing my love of yoga with students in Savannah since that time. In 2006, I quit the rat race and have been focusing on studying and teaching yoga ever since.
My nomadic lifestyle and wanderlust have given me an opportunity to take a wide variety of yoga classes in a wide variety of locations. I have had the opportunity to take classes from David Swenson, Chuck Miller, Maty Ezraty, Rodney Yee, Shiva Rea, Barbara Benagh, Gary Kraftsow, Tim Miller, and Rod Stryker. I have also been blessed to take workshops with Doug Swenson, Richard Freeman, David Life & Sharon Gannon, Tim Miller, David Keil, Andrea Boyd, Barbara Hall, Desiree Rumbaugh and Baron Baptiste.
In November and December of 2007, I studied at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore India. For more information on that experience, check out my blog.
In October 2008, I completed David Swenson's Ashtanga Teacher Training Course in Winter Park, Florida. I am also certified to teach yoga to senior citizens through the Silver Age Yoga program based in San Diego. In May, 2009 I completed Mark White's Baptiste-style Power Yoga teacher training program at MBody Yoga in Jacksonville, FL.
I am drawn to the principles of proper alignment found in the Iyengar and Anusara traditions, as well as the linking of the breath and movement found in Vinyasa yoga. My classes typically combine a series of dynamic, flowing poses with focused instruction about proper alignment.
